Jeep Cruising RPM's why does it fluctuate?
On a ‘99 Jeep Cherokee w/4L Auto, I’ve got a problem with the RPM’s while driving on the interstate. I can drive it fine near 2K RPM’s at 60 MPH. The next time I drive the jeep, the same 60MPH will be at 3K RPM’s. The next time at 60, 2K RPM again and so on…. What can be doing this?
Get your transmission fluid changed, it does wear out eventually, 30,000 miles at the most between changes.
The AW4 is actually a pretty decent tranny used on the Cherokees between 1987 and 2001, in fact Toyota even used it,I don’t remember on what though.
My mom’s Cherokee started doing this once and the fluid change solved the problem.

This is normal. Chrysler makes a hunk of junk. Why you bought it goes over me. Your better off finding the nearest recycling place and crushing it before the price of metal drops. Really its worth doing it.

when your cruising at 2k rpms your in your overdrive gear, also known as 4th, when your at 3k im guessing your in 3rd. you might want to check if you hit the o/d off Switch. also the Automatic transmissions from chrysler are honestly the worst.

trans/put 1qt of lucas trans conditioner in it asap/then try and watch for in and out on od at steady speed/dont believe the bull pappy the company makes the best of the minivans and the jeeps/these other morons know nothing
